    Common Animals

    In this lesson, you will learn common animal names in English. These include both domestic animals (pets and farm animals) and well-known wild animals. You'll learn vocabulary for animals you might encounter in daily life, along with how to describe their appearance, behaviors, and habitats. Mastering these words will help you talk about nature, pets, and wildlife with confidence.

    📖 A Trip to the Zoo

    Last Saturday, Tom and his family went to the zoo to see the animals.

    First, they saw a tall giraffe eating leaves from a tree and a big elephant drinking water.

    Then they watched the monkeys playing and jumping from branch to branch.

    Tom's favourite animal was the lion — it was very strong and had a loud roar!

    Domestic Animals (Pets and Farm Animals)

    Dog

    A common pet that is loyal and often called 'man's best friend'. Dogs bark and can be trained.

    A popular pet that is independent and quiet. Cats meow and are known for hunting mice.

    Bird

    An animal with feathers and wings that can fly. Many people keep birds as pets in cages.

    • The bird sings beautifully.
    • We have a pet bird.
    • Birds build nests in trees.

    Fish

    An animal that lives in water and breathes through gills. Often kept as pets in aquariums.

    • The fish swims in the tank.
    • I have three goldfish.
    • Fish live in water.

    Horse

    A large farm animal that people ride. Horses are strong and can run very fast.

    • She rides a horse every day.
    • The horse is brown.
    • Horses eat grass and hay.

    Cow

    A farm animal that gives milk. Cows are large and often black and white.

    • The cow gives milk.
    • We saw cows in the field.

    Wild Animals

    Lion

    A large wild cat often called the 'king of the jungle'. Lions live in groups called prides.

    Describing Animals

    Size and Appearance

    Use adjectives to describe how animals look: big, small, tall, short, beautiful, ugly.

    • The elephant is very big.
    • A mouse is small.
    • The peacock is beautiful.

    Colors and Patterns

    Describe animal colors and patterns: black, white, brown, spotted, striped.

    • The zebra has black and white stripes.

    Using "a" or "an" with Animals

    Use 'a' before consonant sounds and 'an' before vowel sounds.

    Singular and Plural Forms
