    What Are Subject Pronouns?

    Subject pronouns replace the subject noun to avoid repetition. 'Maria is a doctor. She works at the hospital.' — 'She' replaces 'Maria' in the second sentence.

    Subject pronouns are words we use instead of names. They make our English sound more natural.

    Without Pronouns

    Maria is happy. Maria is a student.

    John works hard. John is tired.

    The book is interesting. The book is new.

    With Pronouns

    She is happy. She is a student.

    He works hard. He is tired.

    It is interesting. It is new.
