    📖 A Week of Weather

    On Monday, the sky is sunny and bright. Tom goes to the park with his friends.

    On Wednesday, it is rainy and cold. Tom takes his umbrella to school.

    On Friday, the weather is windy. Tom holds his hat because the wind is strong!

    On Sunday, it is warm and cloudy. Tom plays in the garden all afternoon.

    Basic Weather Conditions

    sunny

    When the sun is shining and the sky is clear. Sunny weather is bright and warm.

    • It is sunny today.
    • The weather is sunny and nice.
    • I love sunny days.

    cloudy

    When the sky is covered with clouds. You cannot see the sun clearly on cloudy days.

    • It is cloudy outside.
    • The sky is very cloudy.
    • It might rain because it is cloudy.

    rainy

    When water falls from the sky. You need an umbrella on rainy days.

    • It is rainy today.
    • I do not like rainy weather.
    • Take an umbrella, it is rainy.

    windy

    When the air moves quickly. Strong wind can blow things away.

    • It is very windy outside.
    • The weather is windy today.
    • Hold your hat, it is windy!

    snowy

    When white frozen water falls from the sky. Snow is cold and white.

    • It is snowy in winter.
    • The weather is snowy today.
    • Children like snowy days.

    foggy

    When you cannot see far because of mist in the air. Fog makes everything look grey.

    • It is foggy this morning.
    • Drive slowly, it is foggy.
    • The weather is foggy and cold.

    Temperature Words

    hot

    Very high temperature. You feel hot in summer or near fire.

    • It is very hot today.
    • Summer is hot.
    • I feel hot, open the window please.

    warm

    A nice, comfortable temperature. Not too hot, not too cold.

    • The weather is warm and nice.
    • It is warm in spring.
    • I like warm weather.

    cool

    A little bit cold, but pleasant. Good for wearing a light jacket.

    • Autumn mornings are cool.

    cold

    Low temperature. You need warm clothes when it is cold.

    • Winter is very cold.
    • Put on a coat, it is cold.

    freezing

    Extremely cold. Water turns to ice at freezing temperatures.

    • It is freezing today!
    • The weather is freezing cold.
    • I am freezing, let's go inside.

    mild

    Not extreme in any way. Pleasant and moderate temperature.

    • The weather is mild today.
    • We have a mild winter this year.
    • Spring is usually mild.

    The Four Seasons

    spring

    The season after winter. Flowers bloom and the weather gets warmer.

    • Spring is beautiful.
    • Flowers grow in spring.
    • The weather is mild in spring.

    summer

    The hottest season. Days are long and sunny. Good for holidays.

    • Summer is very hot.
    • I go swimming in summer.
    • Summer holidays are fun.

    autumn (fall)

    The season after summer. Leaves change color and fall from trees.

    • Autumn is cool.
    • Leaves fall in autumn.
    • I like autumn colors.

    winter

    The coldest season. Days are short and it can snow.

    • Winter is cold.
    • It snows in winter.
    • I wear a coat in winter.

    Using "It is" for weather

    We use 'It is' (or 'It's') to talk about the weather.

    • It is sunny. / It's sunny.
    • It is raining. / It's raining.
    • It is cold today. / It's cold today.
    • It is going to rain. / It's going to rain.

    Weather adjectives vs. verbs

    Some weather words can be adjectives (sunny) or verbs (rain).

    • It is sunny. (adjective - describing weather)

    ✓ Correct: It will rain tomorrow. (Simple future, not continuous, for weather predictions)

    ❌ Wrong: In summer is hot.

    ✓ Correct: It is hot in summer. / Summer is hot. (Need subject 'It' or 'Summer')
