Isla's First Day at the Bank

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Isla woke up early on a bright morning. She felt nervous but also excited. Today was a special day for her. She wanted to open her first bank account. She never did this before. Her older sister told her it was easy. But Isla was not sure about that. She put on her jacket and picked up her bag. She checked for her identification card. It was inside her bag. She also had some papers with her address on them. She walked to the bus stop and waited. The bus arrived after a few minutes. She got on the bus and sat near the window. She watched the buildings pass by and took a deep breath. Isla arrived at the bank and walked through the big glass doors.

The bank was very clean and quiet inside. There were many people sitting and waiting. Isla looked around and felt a little lost. She did not know where to go first. A friendly woman at the front desk smiled at her. "Hello, how can I help you today?" the woman asked. "I want to open a bank account, please," Isla said quietly. The woman gave her a number and asked her to sit down. "Someone will call your number soon," the woman explained. Isla sat in a comfortable chair and waited. She looked at the other people in the bank. Some people talked to the bank workers behind the counter. One man used a machine near the wall. Isla watched everything carefully because it was all new to her. After ten minutes, a man called her number. He smiled and said, "Please come this way." Isla followed him to a small desk.

He asked her some questions about her name and address. Isla answered all the questions slowly and carefully. He looked at her identification card and her papers. "Everything looks good," he said kindly. He typed some information into his computer. Then he gave Isla a new bank card. "This is your card. You can use it at any machine," he told her. Isla held the card and smiled. She felt very proud of herself. "Thank you so much for your help," she said. The man said, "You are welcome. It was nice to meet you." Isla walked out of the bank with a big smile on her face. She called her sister and said, "I did it! I opened my first bank account!"

    Isla Takes the First Step

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Isla had been thinking about opening a bank account for several weeks, but she kept putting it off because the whole process seemed overwhelming. She had always relied on keeping her savings at home, which she knew was neither safe nor practical. On this particular morning, she decided that she could not delay any longer and that it was time to face her fear. She gathered all the documents she thought she might need, including her identification card and a recent letter showing her address. As she walked towards the bank, her heart was beating faster than usual, and she reminded herself that millions of people did this every single day. She pushed open the heavy glass door and stepped inside, immediately noticing how bright and organized everything looked. Taking a deep breath, she walked up to the information desk and told herself that the hardest part was simply showing up.

A friendly member of staff greeted her at the desk and asked how he could assist her. "I would like to open my first bank account, if that is possible," Isla said, trying to sound more confident than she actually felt. The man nodded warmly and explained that he would guide her through each step of the process, so there was nothing to worry about. He handed her a form and pointed out which sections she needed to fill in, while patiently answering every question she had about the different types of accounts available. Isla was surprised to discover that the process was far more straightforward than she had imagined, and within twenty minutes, most of the paperwork had been completed. The staff member checked her documents, entered her details into the system, and confirmed that everything was in order. "You have been very helpful, and I really appreciate your patience," Isla told him, feeling relieved that it was nearly finished.

Before she left, the staff member handed her a brand new bank card and explained how she could use it to withdraw money, check her balance, and make payments. He also showed her how to set up the bank's application on her phone so that she could manage her account from anywhere. Isla thanked him once more and walked towards the exit, feeling a sense of accomplishment she had not expected. She realized that the anxiety she had carried for weeks had been far worse than the experience itself. Standing outside the bank, she looked at the card in her hand and could not help but smile. She pulled out her phone and called her best friend, saying, "I finally did it, and honestly, I wish I had done it sooner." It was a small step in many ways, but for Isla, it marked the beginning of feeling more independent and in control of her own life.
