    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Yusuf worked at a petrol station. He worked there every day. His job was to help customers. He put petrol in their cars. He also cleaned the windows. Yusuf always smiled at people. He was a good worker.

One morning, an old man came to the station. Yusuf helped him with his car. He filled the tank with petrol. He cleaned the front window too. The old man watched Yusuf work. Yusuf did not say much. He just worked carefully. Then the old man spoke. "Excuse me," he said. "I want to tell you something." Yusuf stopped. He looked at the man. He was a little surprised. Nobody usually talked to him like that. The old man smiled at Yusuf.

"You are a very good worker," he said. "I come here every week. I always see you. You always work hard. You always smile. You make this place feel nice." Yusuf did not know what to say. More Than Just a Job

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Yusuf had been working at the petrol station for almost two years, and in that time he had built a quiet but steady reputation among the regular customers. Every shift, he arrived on time, filled tanks without being asked twice, and cleaned windscreens with the same careful attention he gave to everything else. He rarely received any feedback on his work, and his manager mostly communicated through brief nods or short instructions barked across the forecourt. Yusuf had grown used to the silence. He assumed that, in a job like his, no news simply meant good news. He kept his head down, focused on the task in front of him, and told himself that doing good work was its own reward. One Tuesday morning, a gray-haired man pulled up in a well-worn car and asked Yusuf to fill the tank.

While Yusuf worked, the man stepped out and leaned against the side of his car, watching with quiet interest. When Yusuf finished and handed back the cap, the man did not immediately get back inside. Instead, he cleared his throat and said, "I hope you don't mind me saying something." Yusuf looked up, uncertain whether a complaint was coming. "I've been stopping here for over a year," the man continued, "and I've noticed that you're always the same: calm, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. That's rarer than you'd think." Yusuf stood still for a moment, caught completely off guard. The unexpected praise settled over Yusuf like warmth on a cold morning. He was not used to being seen in that way, and for a second he struggled to find the right words.

"I appreciate that," he said finally, meaning it more than the simple phrase suggested. The man gave a brief, satisfied nod, got back into his car, and drove away. Yusuf returned to his work, but something had shifted. The feedback had not come from a manager, a form, or a formal review. It had come from an ordinary person who had simply chosen to speak up. For the rest of the shift, Yusuf found himself standing a little straighter, working with a renewed sense of purpose.
