    What Did Luca Need?

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Luca woke up early in the morning. He was very hungry. He got dressed and left his room on the third floor. He walked to the lift and pressed the button. The lift arrived quickly. Luca went inside and pressed the button for the ground floor. He thought about his plans for the day. He also thought about a phone call he needed to make. The lift doors opened. Luca walked out and turned left. He saw a sign that said "Breakfast Room" with an arrow. He followed the arrow down a short corridor. He pushed the door open and walked inside. The breakfast room was bright and warm. There were many tables in the room.

Some guests were already eating. Luca could see bread, fruit, eggs, and juice on a long table. A waiter smiled at him and said, "Good morning! Please sit anywhere you like." Luca said, "Thank you," and chose a small table near the window. He sat down and looked around the room. Then he stood up and walked towards the food table. He stopped in the middle of the room. He could not remember why he stood up. He looked at the food. He looked at the drinks. He forgot what he wanted to get. He felt silly. He laughed a little and said quietly to himself, "Why did I come here?" Another guest looked at him and smiled. Luca went back to his table and sat down again. He closed his eyes and tried to think.

"I wanted something specific," he said to himself. Then he remembered. He wanted a cup of tea. He stood up again and walked to the drinks table. He picked up a cup and poured some hot water. He found a tea bag and put it in the cup. He felt very happy now. He carried the tea back to his table carefully. Then he sat down and took a sip. It was perfect. He looked out of the window and smiled. "That happens to me every morning," he said. The waiter walked past and laughed. "It happens to everyone," the waiter said. Luca enjoyed his tea and finally went to get some food too.

    The Reason Luca Forgot

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Luca had been awake for barely twenty minutes when he decided to head down to the hotel breakfast room. He had been thinking about several things at once, including a meeting he had later that day and a message he had forgotten to reply to the night before. By the time the lift doors opened on the ground floor, his mind was already somewhere else entirely. He followed a small sign along the corridor and pushed through the glass doors into a spacious, brightly lit room filled with the smell of fresh bread and coffee. A friendly waiter greeted him at the entrance and gestured towards the tables, saying, "Good morning! Feel free to choose any table you like." Luca nodded, chose a seat by a tall window overlooking a garden, and placed his room key on the table.

He sat there for a moment, watching other guests move between the buffet and their tables, before realizing he should probably get up and serve himself. He stood up with purpose and walked confidently towards the long buffet table, which was covered with plates of fruit, pastries, cereals, and various hot dishes. However, halfway across the room, he slowed down and came to an awkward stop. He had completely forgotten what he had got up to fetch. He stared at the rows of food in front of him, hoping that the sight of something would trigger his memory, but nothing came to mind. A woman standing nearby noticed his confused expression and said with a gentle laugh, "You have forgotten what you came for, haven't you?" Luca smiled in embarrassment and replied, "I was so sure I knew what I wanted just ten seconds ago." He picked up a plate and began placing random items on it, hoping his original idea would come back to him eventually.

It was only after he had returned to his table and taken a bite of a pastry that it suddenly hit him. He had originally got up because he wanted a specific herbal tea that he had noticed on the drinks table from his seat. He let out a quiet laugh and shook his head at himself. "Every single time," he muttered. He got up once more, walked directly to the drinks station, and found the tea he had been looking for all along. As he carried it back, the waiter passed by and said, "It looks like the breakfast room has a way of making people forget their plans." Luca grinned and said, "Apparently, all it takes is a short walk across the room to erase my entire memory." He sat down, finally satisfied, and enjoyed his tea alongside the food he had never originally intended to get.
