    The Wrong Seat

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Leila was very happy that evening. She went to a rooftop terrace with her friend Sam. The rooftop terrace was on top of a tall building. It was a beautiful place with many tables and chairs. There were small lights everywhere. The sky was clear and full of stars. Leila looked around and smiled. She loved being outside in the fresh air. A waiter showed them the terrace. There were many people already sitting at tables. Some tables were empty. Leila saw a nice table near the edge of the terrace. It had a great view of the city below. "Let us sit there," she said to Sam. They walked to the table and sat down.

Leila put her bag on the table. She picked up the menu and started to read it. Sam also looked at the menu. "The food here looks good," Sam said. Leila agreed and smiled. Then a tall woman walked towards their table. She looked confused. She stopped next to Leila and said, "Excuse me, I think you are sitting in my seat." Leila looked up at the woman. "Oh, I am sorry," Leila said. "I did not know this table was taken." The woman pointed to a jacket on the back of the chair. Leila had not seen the jacket before. She felt her face go red. She was very embarrassed. "We are so sorry," Sam said quickly. Leila stood up right away.

She picked up her bag from the table. "Please forgive us," Leila said to the woman. The woman smiled kindly. "It is not a problem," the woman said. "It happens all the time. Do not worry about it." Leila felt a little better after that. The waiter came over to help them. He showed Leila and Sam to another table. This table was also near the edge of the terrace. The view was just as good. Leila and Sam sat down and laughed about the mistake. "Next time, I will check the chairs first," Leila said. Sam laughed and agreed. They had a wonderful evening on the rooftop terrace.

    A Seat with a View

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Leila had been looking forward to visiting the rooftop terrace all week, so when she finally stepped out of the lift and saw the open sky above her, she felt a wave of excitement. The terrace was beautifully decorated with hanging lanterns and potted plants, and soft music was playing in the background. Since it was a warm, clear evening, nearly every table was occupied by groups of friends and couples enjoying the night air. Leila scanned the area, searching for the perfect spot, and her eyes landed on a small corner table right at the edge of the terrace with an incredible view of the glittering city below. Without hesitating, she walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down with a satisfied sigh. She set her phone and sunglasses on the table and began studying the menu that had been left there. Everything seemed absolutely perfect, and she could not believe her luck at finding such a wonderful table.

She had just decided what to order when a voice behind her said, "I am sorry to bother you, but I believe that is my table." Leila turned around and saw a young man holding two glasses of water, looking slightly uncomfortable. She glanced down and suddenly noticed a notebook and pen that had been placed beside the menu, items she had completely overlooked in her excitement. "Oh no, I am so sorry! I had no idea someone was already sitting here," Leila said, feeling her cheeks flush with embarrassment as she quickly gathered her belongings. The young man smiled warmly and replied, "Honestly, it is fine. I should have left something more obvious to mark my spot." Before Leila could apologize again, he added, "If you are on your own, you are welcome to join me. There do not seem to be any other free tables tonight." Leila hesitated for a moment, surprised by the unexpected invitation, but then she accepted gratefully.

What had started as an awkward misunderstanding quickly turned into a genuinely pleasant evening. Leila discovered that the young man, whose name was Marco, was a photographer who often visited the terrace to capture shots of the city skyline at night. They spent the next two hours chatting about their favorite places, sharing recommendations for restaurants and books, and laughing about how their evening had begun. Leila could not help thinking that if she had found an empty table straight away, she would have spent the night alone, scrolling through her phone. As she was getting ready to leave, Marco suggested they exchange contact details so he could send her some of his rooftop photographs. Walking towards the lift with a broad smile on her face, Leila thought to herself that sometimes the best moments in life come from the most unexpected mistakes.
