    Talia and the Spilled Drink

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Talia walks into the lobby of a tall building. She has a big cup of coffee in her hand. She is nervous today. She has an important meeting on the fifth floor. She looks at her phone to check the time. She is ten minutes early. She feels happy about that. The lobby is big and bright. There are many people walking around. Some people are talking. Some people are waiting by the lift. Talia walks slowly and carefully. She does not want to be late. She takes a deep breath and smiles. Then something goes wrong. A man opens the door very fast. He does not see Talia.

He walks straight into her. The coffee flies out of her hand. It spills all over her white shirt. The cup falls to the floor with a loud noise. Everyone in the lobby looks at her. Talia's face goes red. She feels very embarrassed. The man says sorry many times. "I am so sorry!" he says. "Are you okay?" Talia looks down at her shirt. There is a big brown stain on it. She takes another deep breath. "It is okay," she says quietly. But she does not feel okay. Talia looks around the lobby. She needs help. She sees a woman at the front desk.

She walks over to her. "Excuse me," Talia says. "I have a problem." The woman looks at Talia's shirt. She understands immediately. She gives Talia some paper towels. There is also a small shop near the lift. Talia goes to the shop. She buys a plain blue scarf. She wraps it around her shoulders. Now the stain is not easy to see. Talia goes to the lift. The Stain Before the Meeting

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Talia arrived at the building entrance lobby with ten minutes to spare, feeling both excited and anxious about the presentation she had spent the past week preparing. She carried a large takeaway coffee in one hand and her portfolio case in the other, weaving carefully between the morning commuters who filled the bright, busy space. The lobby was impressive, with wide glass doors and a polished floor that reflected the overhead lights like a mirror. Talia had visited this building only once before, so she paused near the reception desk to check her notes and steady her nerves. She reminded herself that she knew the material inside out and that there was no reason to feel anything less than confident. She rolled her shoulders back, lifted her chin, and began walking towards the lifts with a sense of calm purpose. What happened next was sudden and completely beyond her control.

A man in a dark coat pushed through the heavy entrance door without looking ahead, and his shoulder connected hard with Talia's arm. The coffee left her hand in an instant, the plastic lid popping off as it tumbled through the air, and the entire contents poured down the front of her cream blouse. She gasped and stepped back, her heart hammering, as the empty cup clattered noisily across the tiled floor. Several people nearby turned to stare, and Talia felt a wave of heat rise into her face. "I'm terribly sorry," the man said, looking genuinely horrified. "I didn't see you at all." Talia forced a calm expression. "It's fine, please don't worry," she replied, even though a very large part of her absolutely did not feel fine.

Gathering herself quickly, Talia approached the reception desk and explained her situation to the assistant, who responded with impressive efficiency. Within moments, she had been handed a generous supply of paper towels and directed to a small convenience shop tucked beside the lift bank. There, Talia found a lightweight scarf in a deep navy color, which she draped across her shoulders in a way that completely concealed the worst of the stain. She checked her reflection in the shop window, adjusted the scarf, and decided that she actually looked quite polished. With three minutes still remaining before her meeting, she stepped into the lift, pressed the button for the fifth floor, and allowed herself a quiet, private smile. She had handled the situation, and she was ready.
