A Chance Meeting at the Market

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Sofia arrived at the market just as the morning crowd was beginning to gather. She loved the lively atmosphere of the place, with vendors calling out to passers-by and the air filled with the scent of fresh produce. As she made her way through the busy lanes, she paused at a fruit stall, carefully examining a basket of oranges. She was trying to figure out the price when she noticed a young woman standing beside her, looking equally puzzled. The woman glanced at Sofia and let out a small laugh. "I've been standing here for five minutes trying to find the price tag," she said. Sofia smiled with relief, glad that she was not the only confused shopper.

The two women introduced themselves, and Sofia learned that the other woman's name was Lena. It turned out that Lena had been visiting the market for years and knew it well. She offered to show Sofia around, pointing out which stalls were known for quality and which ones were best avoided. Sofia accepted the offer gratefully, and together they wandered through the rows of colorful stalls. As they walked, they discovered that they had a great deal in common, from their love of cooking to their habit of exploring new places on weekends. "I can't believe I've never run into you here before," said Lena, as they stopped to admire a display of fresh herbs. Sofia laughed and agreed, feeling as though they had known each other for much longer than an afternoon.

By the time they had finished shopping, both women had found far more than they had come for. Sofia had filled her bag with fresh fruit, vegetables, and a small jar of local honey that Lena had recommended. They ended their visit at a small refreshment stall, where they shared a pot of tea and continued talking long after their cups were empty. Before parting, they exchanged contact details and made a loose plan to meet at the market the following week. "It's funny how a place this busy can actually bring people together," Sofia reflected, as she made her way home. She realized that sometimes the best friendships begin not through careful planning, but simply by standing beside the right person at exactly the right moment.
