Ravi Helps a Friend at Work

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Ravi worked at a big supermarket. He started his job there two years ago. He liked his work very much. Every morning, he arrived early and put on his uniform. He worked in the fruit and vegetable section. He put fresh food on the shelves every day. He also helped customers find things. Ravi was always polite and friendly. His colleagues liked him a lot. They said he was a kind person. One of his colleagues was named Tom. Tom was new at the supermarket. He started working there last week. Tom was quiet and a little nervous. Ravi wanted to help him feel comfortable. One busy morning, a big delivery arrived at the supermarket.

There were many heavy boxes in the back room. The manager said, "Tom, please put all these boxes on the shelves." Tom looked at the boxes. There were so many of them. He did not know where each product belonged. He tried to read the labels, but he was confused. He picked up one box and walked slowly to the wrong aisle. Then he came back and picked up another box. He looked worried and tired. Ravi saw Tom from across the store. He walked over to him and smiled. "Do you need some help?" Ravi asked. Tom looked relieved. "Yes, please," Tom said. "I do not know where everything goes." Ravi said, "Do not worry. I will show you." He picked up a box and read the label.

"This one goes in aisle three," he said. Tom followed him and watched carefully. Ravi explained the system to Tom. "Fruits go in aisle one. Dairy products go in aisle four. Snacks go in aisle six," he said. Tom listened and nodded. They worked together for the rest of the morning. Ravi carried the heavy boxes, and Tom put the products on the shelves. They finished before lunchtime. The manager was very pleased. "Great teamwork," the manager said. Tom smiled at Ravi. "Thank you so much for your help," he said. Ravi replied, "That is what colleagues are for." After that day, Tom and Ravi became good friends.

A Helping Hand in Aisle Five

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Ravi had been working at the supermarket for just over two years, and in that time, he had become one of the most reliable members of the team. He was the kind of person who always noticed when something needed to be done, whether it was restocking the shelves or calming down frustrated customers. His manager often praised him for his positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile. When he heard that a new colleague named Sara would be joining his shift, he remembered how overwhelming his own first days had been. He decided that he would do whatever he could to make her transition smoother. On Sara's first morning, he introduced himself with a warm smile and offered to show her around the store. Sara seemed grateful but also a little anxious, as the supermarket was much larger than she had expected.

Things quickly became challenging when a supplier delivered twice the usual number of boxes due to a scheduling error. The back room was completely packed, and the manager asked everyone to work as fast as they could to get the products onto the shelves before the store opened. Sara grabbed a crate of tinned goods and headed towards the shop floor, but she stopped at the end of the corridor, unsure which aisle to go to. Ravi, who had been watching from nearby, walked up beside her and said, "If you check the code on the side of the crate, it tells you the aisle number." Sara looked at the small printed label and nodded. "I had no idea that system existed," she admitted. Together, they developed a routine where Ravi sorted the crates by aisle number in the back room while Sara placed the items on the correct shelves. By the time the store opened its doors, every shelf was fully stocked and neatly organized.

The manager walked through each aisle and was clearly impressed by how smoothly everything had gone, considering the unexpected volume of stock. "I have to say, you two handled that situation brilliantly," the manager told them during the morning briefing. Sara turned to Ravi and said, "I honestly could not have managed without your help today. You made something really stressful feel completely manageable." Ravi shrugged modestly and replied, "Someone helped me on my first day too, so it felt right to pass that on." From that morning onwards, the two of them worked side by side regularly and built a strong professional friendship. Ravi had learned long ago that helping others not only made the workplace better but also made the work itself far more enjoyable.
