Mia Checks In at the Mountain Rest Point

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Mia was tired. She had been walking on the mountain trail for three hours. Her legs hurt and her backpack was very heavy. She could see a small building at the top of the hill. There was a sign outside. It said "Rest Point – Rooms Available." Mia smiled. She walked to the door and went inside. The room was warm and quiet. There was a wooden desk near the window. A man stood behind the desk. He had a friendly face and short gray hair. He looked up and smiled at Mia. "Welcome," he said. "Can I help you?" Mia put her backpack on the floor. "Yes, please," she said. "I need a room for tonight." The man looked at his book.

"We have one room left," he said. "It is small, but it has a good view of the mountains." Mia was very happy. "That sounds perfect," she said. The man asked her to write her name in the book. Mia wrote her name carefully. Then the man asked, "Do you have a reservation?" Mia shook her head. "No," she said. "I did not plan to stop here. I just saw the sign." The man nodded. "That is fine," he said. "We have space for you." He gave her a key. The key had a small wooden tag with the number four on it. "Your room is on the second floor," he said. "The stairs are just over there." Mia picked up her backpack and walked to the stairs. Mia found room four easily. She opened the door and walked in. The room was small but clean.

There was a bed with a white blanket. There was a little table and a chair by the window. Mia sat down on the chair and looked outside. She could see the mountains. The sky was turning orange and pink. It was very beautiful. Mia felt happy and relaxed. She took off her hiking boots and put them by the door. Then she washed her hands and face. She was very hungry. She went back downstairs and asked the man about food. "We have soup and bread tonight," he said. "Dinner starts at six." Mia looked at her watch. It was five forty-five. She smiled. "Perfect," she said. "I will be there."

Mia's Unplanned Stop at the Mountain Rest Point

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

After three hours on the mountain trail, Mia's legs were aching and her backpack felt heavier with every step. She had not planned to stop, but when she spotted a small building with a sign reading "Rest Point – Rooms Available," she decided to take a chance. She pushed open the wooden door and stepped into a warm, quiet reception area, where a man with short gray hair looked up from behind a desk and greeted her with a calm smile. "Welcome," he said. "Can I help you?" Mia lowered her backpack to the floor with relief and told him she needed a room for the night. The man checked a worn leather-bound book on the desk and told her that only one room remained. "It's small," he said, "but it has an excellent view of the mountains." Mia told him it sounded perfect.

When he asked whether she had a reservation, she shook her head and explained that she had not intended to stop here at all. "I just saw the sign," she said, a little embarrassed. The man reassured her with a wave of his hand. "That's perfectly fine," he said. "We have space for you." He slid a key across the desk, its wooden tag engraved with the number four, and directed her to the second floor. Room four was small but thoughtfully arranged, with a neatly made bed, a wooden chair, and a window that framed the mountains like a painting. Mia sat down, pulled off her hiking boots, and let out a long breath.

The sky outside was shifting from deep orange to soft pink, and the silence was exactly what she needed. After washing up, she headed back downstairs and asked the man about food. He told her that soup and bread were being served that evening and that dinner began at six. Mia glanced at her watch and saw it was five forty-five.
