    Luca's Forgotten Thought

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Luca woke up early at the hotel. He felt hungry. He wanted to eat breakfast. He put on his clothes and his shoes. He took the lift down to the ground floor. The doors opened and he stepped out. He walked along the corridor. He could smell fresh bread and coffee. The breakfast room was just ahead. He pushed open the big door. The room was bright and warm. There were many tables with white cloths. Other guests were already sitting and eating. Luca smiled. He was happy to be there. He walked into the room.

But then Luca stopped. He stood very still. He looked around the room slowly. Something was wrong. He could not remember why he came in. He knew he wanted something. But he could not think what it was. He looked at the plates of food. He looked at the cups and glasses. He looked at the bread and the fruit. He scratched his head. He felt a little silly. A waiter came over to him. "Good morning," said the waiter. "Can I help you?" "I am not sure," said Luca. "I think I forgot something." The waiter smiled kindly.

Luca stood near the door for a moment. He tried hard to remember. He closed his eyes. Then he opened them again. "Oh!" he said quietly. "I remember now!" He forgot to bring his room key to the table. He needed it to get more towels later. He laughed softly at himself. "Everything is fine," he told the waiter. "Thank you!" He sat down at a table near the window. He poured some juice into his glass. He put some bread on his plate. He ate his breakfast slowly and enjoyed every bite. It was a very good start to the day.

    The Blank Moment

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Luca had been looking forward to breakfast since he woke up. He showered quickly, pulled on his clothes, and took the lift down from the fourth floor. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and warm bread drifted through the corridor, and he followed it eagerly towards the breakfast room. When he pushed open the glass door, he was greeted by the gentle hum of conversation and the soft clinking of cutlery. The room was pleasantly busy, with guests helping themselves to food at a long buffet counter. Luca stepped inside and let the door close behind him. He stood near the entrance and looked around the bright, warmly lit room. And then it happened.

His mind went completely blank. He had walked into the room with a clear purpose, he was certain of it, yet the thought had vanished as quickly as it had arrived. He looked at the buffet, the stacked plates, the baskets of bread, and the rows of juice glasses, searching for some kind of clue. A waiter noticed him standing motionless near the door and walked over with a polite smile. "Good morning," the waiter said. "Is there anything I can help you with?" Luca hesitated, feeling faintly embarrassed. "I'm not entirely sure," he admitted. "I think I may have forgotten something, but I honestly can't say what." The waiter nodded warmly, as if this were the most natural thing in the world.

Luca took a slow breath and let his mind wander back to his room. He pictured himself standing at the bathroom mirror, and that was when it came to him. He had intended to ask about extra towels for his room. "Actually, I've just remembered," he said, turning back to the waiter with a grateful smile. "Could you arrange for some extra towels to be sent up, please?" The waiter confirmed it would be taken care of straight away. Feeling quietly pleased with himself, Luca chose a table by the window, poured himself a coffee, and settled in for a leisurely breakfast. He found the whole episode rather amusing in hindsight, and made a mental note to write things down next time.
