    Linh Learns at the Airport

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Linh sat in the airport departure lounge and waited for her flight. She looked around at the big room full of people. Some people read books. Others looked at their phones. Linh was bored because her flight was in three hours. She opened her bag and took out a small book. The book was about drawing. Linh wanted to learn how to draw faces. She never tried drawing before. She felt a little nervous but also excited. She opened the first page and started to read.

The book said to start with simple shapes like circles and lines. Linh took out a pencil and a piece of paper from her bag. She drew a circle for a head. Then she drew two small circles for eyes. She looked at her picture and laughed. "It does not look like a face," she said to herself. A woman next to her looked at the paper and smiled. "Are you learning to draw?" the woman asked. "Yes, I am," Linh said. "But it is very hard." The woman said, "I draw a little bit. Can I help you?" Linh smiled and said, "Yes, please.

That is very kind." The woman moved to the seat next to Linh. The woman showed Linh how to draw a nose and a mouth. "Start with a small triangle for the nose," she said. "Then draw a curved line for the mouth." Linh tried again and this time the face looked much better. "That is really good!" the woman said. Linh felt happy and proud of herself. She practiced three more faces before her flight was ready. She thanked the woman many times. "You helped me so much today," Linh said. The woman smiled and said, "Keep practicing and you will get better every day." Linh put her drawing things in her bag and walked to the gate with a big smile.

An Unexpected Lesson in the Departure Lounge

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Linh had been sitting in the airport departure lounge for over an hour when she noticed an older man across from her folding a piece of paper into something extraordinary. His fingers moved quickly and confidently, transforming a plain square of paper into what appeared to be a small bird. Linh had always wanted to learn paper folding, but she had never found the right moment to start. She watched him quietly, fascinated by how such a simple material could become something so beautiful. The man looked up, caught her staring, and smiled warmly. "Would you like to try?" he asked, holding out a blank sheet of paper. Without hesitating, Linh nodded eagerly and moved to the seat beside him.

The man introduced himself as Tomas and explained that he had been practicing paper folding for nearly twenty years. "I picked it up while waiting for a delayed flight, just like today," he said with a gentle laugh. He guided Linh through the steps of making a simple butterfly, reminding her to fold each crease as precisely as possible. At first, Linh's folds were uneven, and her butterfly looked more like a crumpled napkin. "Don't worry about perfection," Tomas encouraged her. "The important thing is that you're willing to try and keep going." By her third attempt, Linh had produced a butterfly that actually resembled one, and she held it up with a look of genuine satisfaction. As the boarding announcement echoed through the lounge, Linh realized that two hours had passed without her even noticing.

She had been so absorbed in learning that the long wait had felt like minutes. Tomas handed her a few extra sheets of paper and a small instruction booklet he had been carrying in his bag. "Keep experimenting with different designs when you get the chance," he suggested. Linh thanked him sincerely and told him that this had been one of the most enjoyable afternoons she could remember. Walking toward the gate, she carefully placed the butterfly in her jacket pocket, already looking forward to practicing again on the plane.
