    Leila's Mistake on the Rooftop

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Leila walked up the stairs to the rooftop terrace. It was a warm evening and the sky was orange and pink. She looked around at the tables and chairs. There were many people on the terrace. Some people were talking. Some people were drinking coffee. Leila felt happy. She wanted a good seat. She saw a chair near the edge of the terrace. The view from there was very beautiful. She could see the whole city below. She walked over to the chair and sat down. She put her bag on the table. She looked at the view and smiled. It was a perfect spot. She felt very relaxed. Leila did not look at the other things on the table. After a few minutes, a man came to the table. He had a friendly face. He looked at Leila and then at the chair.

"Excuse me," he said. "I think that is my seat." Leila looked at him. She felt confused. "Your seat?" she said. "Yes," the man said. "I put my book there. I was here before you." Leila looked at the table. She saw a small blue book next to her bag. She did not see it before. Her face went red. "Oh no," she said. "I am so sorry! I did not see your book." The man smiled. "It is okay," he said. "Do not worry." Leila felt embarrassed. She started to get up from the chair quickly. She picked up her bag. "Please, I am really sorry," she said again. The man laughed a little. "Please do not feel bad," he said.

"It happens to everyone." He pointed to the chair next to Leila. "You can sit here if you like. There is a good view from this chair too." Leila looked at the chair. She smiled and said, "Thank you. That is very kind." She sat down in the new chair. The man sat down in his seat. He opened his blue book. Leila looked at the view again. It was still very beautiful. A server came to the table. "Can I get you something?" the server asked. Leila ordered a cold drink. The man ordered a hot coffee. They sat quietly for a moment. Then the man looked up from his book. "The view is wonderful tonight, isn't it?" he said. "Yes," said Leila. "It really is." She was happy again. It was a good evening after all.

    The Seat With a View

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Leila arrived at the rooftop terrace just as the sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in warm shades of amber and gold. She had been looking forward to a quiet evening alone, and the terrace seemed like the ideal place to unwind. Scanning the space for a suitable seat, her eyes landed on a chair positioned right at the edge of the terrace, offering a breathtaking view of the skyline. Without hesitation, she made her way over and settled into the chair, placing her bag on the table beside her. She took a slow, deep breath and smiled to herself, satisfied that she had found such a perfect spot. It was only after she began to relax that she noticed a folded jacket draped over the back of the chair. She assumed it had simply been left behind by a previous guest and thought nothing more of it. A few minutes later, a tall woman with a warm expression approached the table and looked directly at Leila's chair.

"I'm terribly sorry to bother you," the woman said politely, "but I believe you may be sitting in my seat. I left my jacket there while I went to make a phone call." Leila felt heat rise to her cheeks immediately. She looked at the jacket, which was clearly still hanging on the back of the chair, and realized she had completely overlooked it when she sat down. "Oh goodness, I'm so sorry," Leila said, already reaching for her bag. "I honestly didn't notice it at all. Please, take your seat." The woman shook her head gently and held up her hand. "There's really no need to rush," she said with a reassuring smile. "These things happen to the best of us."

Rather than simply walking away, the woman gestured towards the neighboring chair and suggested they share the table, since the view was equally impressive from both seats. Leila, still feeling a little flustered, accepted the offer gratefully and introduced herself. The two women began chatting easily, discovering they had both come to the terrace for the same reason: to escape the noise of the day and enjoy a moment of peace. When the server arrived, they ordered their drinks and continued their conversation as the sky gradually deepened to a rich shade of purple. By the time the evening air had turned cool, Leila had completely forgotten her earlier embarrassment. What had started as an awkward mistake had turned into an unexpectedly enjoyable encounter, and she left the terrace that night feeling that sometimes the best moments arrive when you least expect them.
