Jin's Request for a Day Off at the Sports Center

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Jin had been working as a fitness instructor at the sports center for just over two years, and in all that time, he had never once asked for a day off. He was known for being reliable and cheerful, and his classes were always full. One morning, however, something personal came up, and he realized he would need to speak to his boss, Mr. Park. As he finished his early session and wiped down the equipment, he rehearsed what he wanted to say. He felt a little awkward about asking, not because he doubted his boss would say yes, but because he genuinely disliked the idea of leaving his colleagues short-staffed. Straightening his jacket, he walked across the gym floor and knocked on Mr. Park's office door. Mr.

Park looked up from his desk and waved Jin in with a warm smile. "Jin, what can I do for you?" he asked. Jin explained that a family matter had come up unexpectedly, and he was hoping to take next Thursday off. Mr. Park listened without interrupting, then reached for his schedule and ran his finger down the page. "I appreciate you giving me enough notice," Mr. Park said. He confirmed that a part-time instructor could step in to cover Jin's classes, so there would be no disruption to the program. "Consider it approved," he added, setting down his pen.

Jin thanked him sincerely and promised to brief his colleague before the end of the day. As Jin walked back to the gym floor, he felt a quiet sense of relief. He found his colleague, Sara, stretching near the weights area and quickly explained the situation. Sara was happy to help and said she had always wanted to try leading the Thursday morning session. Jin smiled and said, "I owe you one." He spent the rest of the afternoon updating his class notes and leaving clear instructions at the front desk, just as Mr. Park had asked. By the time his shift ended, everything was in order. That evening, he contacted his family and confirmed he would be there.
