    Good News at the Station

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Tariq was at the train station early in the morning. He was waiting for his friend Sana. The station was busy and noisy. Many people walked past him quickly. Some people carried big bags. Others held cups of coffee. Tariq looked at the large board on the wall. It showed the times of the trains. He checked his phone again. There was no message from Sana yet. He sat down on a metal bench. He felt nervous and excited. He had something very important to tell her. He smiled to himself and waited. After twenty minutes, Tariq saw Sana. She walked through the main door of the station.

She wore a blue jacket and carried a small bag. Tariq stood up and waved at her. "Sana! Over here!" he called. She saw him and walked over quickly. "Hello, Tariq! It is nice to see you," she said. "How are you?" Tariq smiled. "I am great. I have some wonderful news for you," he said. Sana looked surprised. "What is it?" she asked. "Tell me now!" Tariq laughed. "You got the job!" he said. "The manager called me yesterday and told me. They want you to start next week."

Sana's eyes opened wide. "Really? Are you serious?" she asked. "Yes! I am completely serious," Tariq said. Sana put her hands over her mouth. She was very happy. "I cannot believe it!" she said. "Thank you so much for telling me, Tariq." Tariq smiled at his friend. "You worked very hard for this," he said. "You deserve it." Sana laughed and looked around the busy station. "This is the best morning I have had in a long time," she said. A train arrived at the platform with a loud sound. "That is my train," Sana said. "I have to go, but I am so happy right now." She waved goodbye and walked towards the platform. Tariq watched her go and felt proud of his friend.

    The Announcement on Platform Five

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Tariq had been pacing back and forth along platform five for nearly half an hour, glancing at the arrivals board every few seconds. The morning air was cool, and the station was gradually filling with commuters who hurried past without making eye contact. He had received an important phone call the previous evening, and since then, he had been unable to contain his excitement. His colleague and close friend, Sana, had applied for a highly competitive position at a well-known research institute several weeks ago. She had gone through three rounds of interviews and a written assessment, and the waiting had taken a toll on her confidence. Now Tariq held the answer she had been desperately hoping for, and he wanted to deliver it in person rather than over the phone. He checked the arrivals board once more and noticed that her train was just two minutes away. The train pulled into the station with a sharp screech of brakes, and dozens of passengers stepped onto the platform. Tariq scanned the crowd and soon spotted Sana walking towards the exit with her head down, looking exhausted.

"Sana! Wait!" he called out, jogging towards her. She looked up, clearly puzzled by his unexpected presence. "Tariq? What are you doing here so early?" she asked, adjusting the strap of her bag. He took a deep breath and grinned. "I could not wait to tell you this. The institute called me last night because they could not reach you. You have been offered the position, Sana.

You got it!" For a moment, she simply stared at him, as though the words had not quite registered. Then, slowly, a wide smile spread across her face, and she let out a breath she seemed to have been holding for weeks. "Are you absolutely sure?" she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "One hundred percent," Tariq replied, nodding firmly. "They said your performance during the final interview was outstanding, and they would like you to begin at the start of next month." Sana pressed her hands together and closed her eyes briefly, overwhelmed by a wave of relief and joy. "I had almost convinced myself that I had not been selected," she admitted. "Hearing this from you, here of all places, makes it feel even more special." Tariq placed a hand on her shoulder and said, "You have earned every bit of this, and I could not be prouder of you." Around them, the station carried on with its usual rhythm, but for both of them, the ordinary morning had become something truly memorable.
