Felix Hails a Ride from the Food Court

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Felix had been sitting in the food court for nearly an hour, finishing a late lunch and putting off the moment he would have to figure out transportation to his hotel. The food court was lively and crowded, filled with the smell of freshly cooked food and the sound of busy conversations. He pulled out his cell phone, opened a taxi app, and was relieved to see that a driver was only a few minutes away. He tapped the screen to confirm the booking, slid the phone into his pocket, and gathered his bag. With the last few sips of his drink, he checked the app one more time and headed toward the exit, feeling organized and ready. Outside, the warm air was a sharp contrast to the cool interior of the food court. Felix stood near the entrance, watching the screen on his phone as the little car icon moved steadily closer on the map.

Within minutes, a silver car pulled up and the driver lowered the window. "Felix?" he called out. "That's me," Felix replied, opening the back door and settling in with his bag across his lap. "The Grand Central Hotel, please," he said. The driver nodded confidently. "About fifteen minutes depending on traffic," he said, pulling smoothly into the flow of cars. As the taxi moved through the city, Felix gazed out at the mix of modern storefronts and older buildings lining the streets.

The driver, sensing that Felix was a visitor, kept the conversation light and welcoming. "Is this your first visit?" he asked. "It is," Felix admitted. "I only arrived this morning." The driver smiled in the rearview mirror and said, "I hope the city treats you well."
