    Felix Arrives Too Early

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Felix woke up very early on Saturday morning. He was excited because he planned to meet his friend Sara at the food court. They wanted to eat lunch together at twelve o'clock. Felix looked at his clock. It was only nine in the morning. He thought about this for a moment. Then he decided to leave his house early. He did not want to be late. He put on his shoes and picked up his bag. He walked to the bus stop near his house. The bus came quickly. Felix got on the bus and sat down. He looked out of the window during the ride. The streets were quiet and calm. After fifteen minutes, the bus stopped near the food court. Felix walked into the food court and looked around. Most of the food stalls were closed. The lights were off in many of them.

Only one small coffee stall was open. A woman behind the counter smiled at him. "Good morning! You are here very early," she said. Felix looked at his watch. It was only half past nine. He was two and a half hours early. "Oh no," he said quietly to himself. He felt a little silly. He sat down at an empty table. The chairs were cold. The food court was very big and very empty. He could hear his own footsteps on the floor. He took out his phone and sent a message to Sara. "I am already at the food court," he wrote. Sara replied quickly. "Already? It is so early!

You have a long wait," she wrote. Felix laughed at himself. He walked to the coffee stall and bought a small drink. "Is it always this quiet in the morning?" he asked the woman. "Yes, people usually come after eleven," she answered. Felix sat down again and waited. He played games on his phone. He watched the stalls open one by one. Slowly, more people started to arrive. The food court became noisy and busy. Finally, Sara arrived at twelve o'clock. "Hello, Felix! How long were you here?" she asked with a big smile. "A very long time," Felix said. They both laughed. "Next time, I will not come so early," Felix said.

The Early Bird at the Food Court

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Felix had been looking forward to Saturday all week because he had arranged to meet his friend Sara for lunch at the food court. They had agreed to meet at noon, but Felix, who had always been the type to worry about being late, decided to leave much earlier than necessary. He caught the first bus of the morning and arrived at the food court before half past nine. As he stepped through the entrance, he immediately noticed how different the place looked compared to his usual visits. The vast hall, which was normally packed with people chatting and eating, was almost completely deserted. Most of the food stalls had their shutters pulled down, and the only sign of life was a single coffee vendor setting up for the day. Felix stood there for a moment, realizing he had made quite a miscalculation with his timing.

Feeling slightly embarrassed, Felix approached the coffee vendor, who greeted him with a warm but surprised smile. "You must be the earliest customer I have ever had on a weekend," the vendor said while preparing a fresh pot of coffee. Felix chuckled nervously and ordered a small coffee to pass the time. He chose a seat near the center of the food court, where he could watch the space gradually come to life. As he sipped his drink, he pulled out his phone and sent Sara a message admitting that he had already arrived. Her response was immediate and full of laughing emojis, followed by the words, "Only you would show up two and a half hours early, Felix!" He could not help but laugh at himself, knowing she was absolutely right. Over the next couple of hours, Felix watched the food court transform from a silent, echoing hall into a lively, bustling space.

Stall owners arrived and began preparing their ingredients, filling the air with inviting aromas that made his stomach growl with anticipation. Other early visitors trickled in, and soon the hum of conversation and the clatter of trays replaced the silence that had greeted him earlier. By the time Sara finally appeared at noon, the food court was in full swing. "So, have you been enjoying your private food court experience?" she teased as she sat down across from him. Felix grinned and replied, "I have learned my lesson. Next time, I will set an alarm to stop myself from leaving too early." They both burst out laughing before heading off to order their long-awaited lunch together.
