    Darius and the Garden Plan

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Darius loved the botanical garden. He went there every week. It was a big, green place with many flowers and trees. One day, his friend group made a plan. They wanted to meet at the garden at nine o'clock in the morning. Darius looked at the plan. He read it carefully. He thought about it for a long time. He wanted to change one small thing. He did not want to meet at nine o'clock. Nine o'clock was too early for him. He wanted to meet at eleven o'clock instead. He felt a little nervous. He did not want to upset his friends. But he decided to talk to them. Darius called his friend Sofia. "Sofia, I have a question about our plan," he said.

"Of course! What is it?" Sofia asked. "Can we meet at eleven o'clock instead of nine?" Darius asked. "Nine o'clock is a little early for me." Sofia was quiet for a moment. Then she said, "That is okay with me. But we need to ask the others." Darius felt happy. He sent a message to the group. "Hello everyone. Can we change the meeting time? Can we meet at eleven o'clock?" he wrote. His friend Milo replied first. "I am fine with eleven," Milo said. His friend Priya replied next. "Eleven is better for me too!" she said. Darius smiled. Everyone agreed with the change. The next morning, Darius arrived at the botanical garden at eleven o'clock.

His friends were already there. Sofia was near the rose garden. Milo was looking at a tall tree. Priya was reading a sign about tropical plants. "Good morning!" Darius said. "Good morning!" his friends replied. They all walked together through the garden. They saw many beautiful flowers. They sat near a small pond and had a drink. "I am glad we changed the time," Darius said. "This is perfect." Sofia laughed. "You were right," she said. "Eleven o'clock is much nicer." Darius felt very happy. It was a wonderful morning. He was glad he asked his friends about the change. Next time, he would speak up sooner.

A Small Change in the Garden

    Name: ______________________   Date: ____________

Darius had always found the botanical garden to be a calming place, full of color and quiet paths where he could think clearly. When his group of friends proposed a morning visit, he was immediately enthusiastic. However, as he reviewed the details, he noticed one issue: the agreed start time of nine o'clock felt far too early for him on a rest day. He did not want to simply ignore the arrangement, but he also knew that turning up half-awake would not be enjoyable for anyone. After considering his options carefully, he decided that the most sensible approach was to raise the matter politely rather than stay silent. He picked up his phone and began to compose a message, choosing his words with care so as not to seem difficult or demanding. Darius sent a message to Sofia, who had organized the outing.

"I hope you do not mind me asking," he wrote, "but would it be possible to push the start time back to eleven? I think I would enjoy the visit much more if I were properly rested." Sofia responded within minutes. "Honestly, I had been wondering the same thing," she admitted. "Let me check with Milo and Priya." To Darius's relief, both friends agreed without hesitation, with Priya noting that a later start would give them more time to have a proper breakfast beforehand. Darius felt a wave of reassurance wash over him. He had been so worried about making things awkward, yet the negotiation had been effortless and warm. When the group gathered at the garden's main entrance at eleven o'clock, the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful.

Milo had already spotted a rare fern near the entrance path and was eagerly describing it to Priya, who listened with genuine curiosity. Darius greeted his friends and they set off along the winding route that led through sections of herbs, succulents, and flowering shrubs. As they paused beside a tranquil lily pond, Darius reflected on how smoothly the small negotiation had gone. "I almost did not say anything," he admitted to Sofia. "I was worried about being a nuisance." She smiled and replied, "Asking for a small adjustment is never a nuisance. It just means you know what you need." Darius appreciated her words and made a quiet promise to himself to communicate more openly in the future.
