    What Are Adverbs of Frequency?

    Position rule: adverbs of frequency go BEFORE the main verb but AFTER the verb 'be'. ✓ 'I often eat rice.' ✓ 'She is always on time.' ✗ 'I eat often rice.'

    In the evening, she hardly ever watches TV. She never goes to bed after 11 PM.

    Notice how each adverb tells us exactly how often Emma does something — from always (100%) to never (0%)!

    Key Rule!

    Adverbs of frequency go BEFORE the main verb but AFTER the verb "to be"

    ✓ I always eat breakfast. (before main verb)

    ✓ She is usually busy. (after "to be")

    ✓ They often visit us. (before main verb)
